About Us
So who are we and what do we do?
Formed in March 2011 we have achieved a great deal in our first year but we will not be resting on our laurels because we have set our goals even higher for next year and the years to come.
With a little bit of imagination we could be compared to a Roman Legion, the Senate back at Borough Hall, the Park Rangers as the Centurions and the Friends group as the Auxiliaries but in reality Friends of Putnoe Woods and Mowsbury Hillfort are a small group of local people from all walks of life working with the hardworking enthusiastic Priory Park Rangers.
We assist the Park Rangers with practical tasks such as scrub clearing, raking meadows, cutting back hedges and other activities concerned with the maintenance and stabilization of the wood and hillfort.
Throughout the year we have archaeological, scavenging walks and other organised events. We are actively pursuing ways to promote the group, raise funds, to accumulate as much information about the two sites as possible and to organise activities that are interesting and enjoyable. We would like to thank all our new friends and colleagues for all their help with the information and facts that we have so far accumulated for our web pages.
The practical tasks are normally arranged for either a Wednesday or Saturday afternoon, times vary depending on the time of year and all tools, equipment and refreshments are provided. We have regular informal social meetings with the Park Rangers to discuss and arrange tasks, events and progress.
We help to foster and promote all the activities of the two sites by working in partnership with Bedford Borough Council and the Park Rangers. Membership of the Friends Group is open to all.
